The Beast of Bray Road, Part Two

The evening is colder than she expected, and the sun seems to be setting unusually early. Helen looks up and is greeted by angry clouds, billowing on the horizon. The entire sky looks dull and overcast, and she wonders to herself how long this investigation is going to last tonight.

She shuts the car door, shoulders her pack, and turns on her flashlight, leaving the venison for James.

"Ready?"

"Not a scratch!"

"I make no promises. Next time, move to a country that uses the proper side of the road..."

"You are so close to not getting lucky tonight..."

[dr_jd_watson]

"All right, all right. I promise to drive like an American. Only for you..."

[doctormagnus]

"Good boy."

[dr_jd_watson]

"For you, always. Except when you prefer me to be a naughty boy..."

[doctormagnus]

She smirks and shakes her head. "Just drive the bloody car..."

[dr_jd_watson]

"As milady commands," he answers, shifting into gear and driving them back to the B&B.

She rests a hand on his thigh as they drive, and watches out the window while raindrops begin to roll down the glass.

[dr_jd_watson]

He drives in silence, occasionally smiling over at her. As they approach the B&B, he notes of the rain, "At least we'll be able to get clear impressions of the footprints tomorrow..."

"Yes." She smiles over at him and squeezes his thigh, thumb rubbing gently.

[dr_jd_watson]

He makes a soft noise of contentment at that, smiling more widely.

[doctormagnus]

"Remember the days where we'd barely make into a building at times?"

[dr_jd_watson]

"Fondly," he assures her, chuckling. "We were so young and randy in those early days, weren't we?"

[doctormagnus]

"The Source didn't help, raging through our veins. I still feel that need sometimes. Can you?"

[dr_jd_watson]

"Oh, of course. Although I have decades of practice sublimating those needs into less physical pursuits..."

[doctormagnus]

"Well, sometime soon, we should not practice so much restraint." She gives him a gentle squeeze through his trousers and slides out of the car, heading inside to check them in.

James enjoys the view for a moment, then climbs out of the car and carries their bags inside.

She gets their room key, taking a moment to chat with the front desk associate.

James stands by, looking every inch the exhausted, long-suffering husband whose wife likes to chat with pretty young men while he's left waiting.
